Get the most out of 1PPS through special timing settings

Overview
BONAV offers flexible entry level timing adjustment and customizations for the newest generation of GPS module line-up. This software/firmware feature helps the user to quickly adjust timing-related settings and get the most out of BONAV's Nano-seconds-level GPS synchronization.

Background
With the advent of satellite technologies transforming the everyday lives, GPS is already the de-facto tool for navigation and location for the general public and professional fields such as weather monitoring, agriculture, construction and earth quake monitoring. However, one may not realize, there is one application that is heavily dependent on GPS for optimal performance: communication network.

All communications between multiple points rely on GPS to provide the most accurate timing. The networks need to know when's the right time to send and receive messages in order to prevent interference and packet delivery error. Surprisingly, the atomic clocks on board the GPS satellites, which are crucial for position location, can provide timing accuracy down to the Nano seconds level. GPS timing & synchronizing application has been widely adopted into cellular networks (2G, WiMAX, LTE), TV broadcasting (DVB), and power-grids.

Solution
It is well known that GPS can be used as a source of highly accurate synchronization and time transfer. BONAV timing module can supply highly accurate one-pulse-per-second (PPS) output for precise timing measurements as the rising edge of 1 PPS signal is synchronized to the start of each GPS "second".

In addition, timing specific customizations are also available to suit different synchronization applications. The following are some of the features that are currently available:

1PPS pulse output duration setting (pulse width range: 1~999ms)
1PPS pulse output mode selection
Auto-adjust leap seconds
1PPS pulse configurable by packet command
